AGS North-East Special Project

The Abuja Global Shapers Community Special Project in the North East (AGS-NE Special Project) is a large-scale scheme that demonstrates our commitment to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the empowerment of the Girl Child. In partnership with Etisalat Nigeria, the project is aimed at sending 1,000 children in Yobe, Borno& Adamawa states back to school. We have undertaken the tasks of procuring 1,000 school bags, 10,000 school books, 1,000 sets of writing materials and 1,000 sets of school uniforms, to take to 10 schools in these states in order to distribute them among their incoming primary 1 students. We targeted this particular demographic because it is at that age that parents weigh the pros and cons of sending their children to school with the Boko Haram insurgency and the cost school supplies weighing in heavily on the con side. Providing them with these necessities affords an incentive for the parents to send their children to school.  Our strategy is to have a target of 60% girls and 40% boys in order to tip the balance in favour of the Girl Child. After strategically assessing the impact of this project, the Abuja Global Shapers Community aims to repeat the exercise as the students advance and as new children arrive at the same crossroads.

Testimonies

"Mentoring at Ladela School brought me opportunities to help my mentees overcome their career worries and fears. Despite their naiveness, i also learn from their innocence and passion to be an ambassador in their prospective chosen field of profession".
