Abuja Global Shapers Tree Planting Challenge

The Abuja Global Shapers is one of the five (5) Hubs across the Global Shapers Community to win the World Economic Forum’s Climate Reality Grant for 2020

“For in the true nature of things, if we rightly consider, every green tree is far more glorious than if it were made of gold and silver.” – Martin Luther

To implement this grant, the Abuja Global Shapers is collaborating with ten (10) partners (NGOs, schools, groups, individuals, academic bodies, religious communities and clubs) in Abuja to plant five thousand (5,000) Trees in the Federal Capital of Nigeria on or before June 21, 2020 (International Climate Change Day).

According to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification, the active planting of trees can prevent desertification. Tree-planting also makes the air more breathable by reducing particulate matter. Trees also reduce erosion and pollution in our waterways. In line with this grant, the Abuja Global Shapers is promoting environmental sustainability in the Federal Capital of Nigeria, by taking on this challenge to tackle Abuja’s loss of trees, and to reinstate the city as the “Green Capital” of Nigeria.
