Shaping Politics Project
A digital civic education campaign strengthening political literacy and electoral engagement among young Nigerians in the FCT.
Problem Statement
While young Nigerians are increasingly vocal and politically conscious, many still lack clear, accessible knowledge of how governance works and how they can engage meaningfully beyond elections. Leveraging Abuja's position as Nigeria's political capital, the campaign set out to simplify governance concepts, spark conversations around democratic participation, and reframe politics as an accessible space for young people.
Target Group
- Young Nigerians aged 18-35
- First-time and prospective voters in the FCT
- Online civic audiences on Instagram and LinkedIn
Proposed Solution
A fully digital, two-phase civic education campaign: daily bite-sized carousels that break down political concepts into youth-friendly formats, followed by a flagship Independence Day video featuring youth, civic actors, and stakeholders — using a national moment as a hook for governance storytelling.
Hub Activities
Phase 1 — 7-Day Political Education Series
- How Government Works (three tiers of government)
- Separation of Powers
- How a Bill Becomes Law
- Citizens' Rights and Responsibilities
- Ways Young People Can Engage Beyond Elections
- Political Myths vs Facts
- Youth in Politics: Global Inspirations
Phase 2 — Independence Day Flagship Video
- 2:59 multi-stakeholder video released on October 1
- Voices from youth, civic actors, and key stakeholders
- Reflective Independence Day message and rallying call for informed civic participation
Key Results / KPIs
- 9,858 views on the flagship Independence Day video
- 582 total interactions (456 likes, 63 shares, 25 reposts, 20 saves, 18 comments)
- 22 profile actions generated for the Hub
- 33,307 views on the FCT election awareness campaign
- 70 residents engaged door-to-door; 15 PVC registrations facilitated
Impact Outcome
High share, repost, and save numbers show audiences treated the content as an educational resource worth amplifying. The campaign raised awareness of basic political structures and civic processes, sparked conversations on youth participation and accountability, positioned the Abuja Hub as a visible voice in youth civic education, and created reusable educational content for future initiatives. The planned #KnowYourRep Series was deferred to a later phase so the team could concentrate on political literacy content and the Independence Day video.
